Transmute Publishing is an association of artists from a variety of disciplines who seek to combine analog and digital forms of publication to translate them into print. Our long term goal is to develop a diverse portfolio by bringing together different artistic disciplines, styles, media and formats. In their interaction, these distinct forms of expression reciprocally discover and complement each other.
What we work on wants to explore the open field in between image, text and sound. Working together with different artists, we are striving to create formats that are regularly presented in the digital realm as well as in exhibitions. These are then transformed into innovative print products, issued in limited editions. With every new project or experiment, we are aiming at expanding this portfolio. Our research thereby gives a voice to others while continuously narrating itself.
As a first step towards print, we established the Reaktionswerk, an instrument that embodies our philosophy. In this regular format, artists we curate are given a limited amount of time to react to each others work in a given order. Their successive reactions are then published one by one in an online stream. Once the work is completed, it is deleted from the digital realm in order to be transformed into a printed format. Playing with forms is central to this enterprise: While they interact, the different artists shape a narrative that develops on the go. The Reaktionswerk relates the growth process of an intersubjective, intermedial and boundary transgressing constellation, whose formation can be relived time and time again.
